Traditional Burial
Fishkill Rural Cemetery sits on more than 140 beautiful acres surrounded by multiple ponds, mature trees, and a lovely natural atmosphere. If you are looking for a traditional ground burial, we offer a large selection of locations, including those that overlook a peaceful pond and a veteran section. We can accommodate a single plot or can make arrangements for your entire family. The grounds are a lovely place you will enjoy retuning to time and time again to pay respects to a loved one.
Ground Burial of Cremains
At Fishkill Rural Cemetery we offer traditional ground burial for cremated remains. There are many options available, which include single or companion burials, as well as side by side burials. Cremated remains can also be placed in the grave of a family member or loved one who has chosen a traditional casket burial. We will be happy to discuss your options in detail.
Grave Markers
For those concerned about the financial aspects of planning a funeral, we offer grave markers as a less expensive alternative to a headstone. We have a separate section dedicated to graves that are memorialized with grave markers.

Veteran’s Section
The Fishkill Rural Cemetery maintains three veterans’ sections, and many other veterans are buried within their own family plots. More than 400 service men and women rest on our grounds. Many of their surnames will likely be familiar to you, including two of many who were members of families that settled and shaped the community of Fishkill.
Private Sidney A. Scofield was killed in action while charging up San Juan Hill, alongside Teddy Roosevelt, in Cuba in the Spanish American War. He was just 22 when he enlisted in May of that year, and within six weeks, he was gone. Lewis Tompkins Hose Fire Company sent a representative to Cuba to retrieve the body, and the United Spanish War Veterans, similar to the GAR or the VFW of its time, formed Camp Number 126 in Fishkill and named it “Sidney A. Scofield” in his honor, as a tribute to this young man who gave his life in service to his nation on a far-off island in a short-lived war.
